The operation of the powder brake is based on the interaction of a magnetic powder placed between the rotor and the stator. When current is applied to the stator winding, the powder is magnetized, creating a friction force that provides braking. Powder brakes are used in machine tools, rewinding machines, test benches, as well as in tension and speed control systems.
